FAQ
Q-1 Where does the name Rin Robyn come from?
A-1 Rin Robyn was the name of our founder. During World War II, serving with the 78th Infantry Division, Staff Sergeant Robyn was the recipient of a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat in Germany, as well as a Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster for heroic and meritorious actions in combat. Prior to building his first swimming pool, Rin had been an Industrial Arts teacher.
Q-2 How long have you been in business?
A-2 Rin Robyn began building swimming pools back in 1958. Today, the company operated by his son, James G. Robyn, provides project designs, builds and services pool projects and operates two retail stores.
Q-3 Where do you work?
A-3 We can provide Design Services for projects around the country and around the world. Our construction projects are limited to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.
Q-4 What is the process?
A-4 We begin by contracting with you to design your project with a Design/Build Agreement. We will need a topographical survey of your site and this will be loaded into an AutoCad (Computer Aided Design) database that will be used for the design drawings.
Our design team, consisting of James and Hae-Sun Robyn will meet with you to brainstorm your project. They will then prepare drawings of ideas for your project and meet with you regularly to refine the ideas, dialog your thoughts on the design and ultimately break down the costs of the variables in the design.
Once the design is complete and the build costs are agreed upon, we begin the construction permit applications and proceed to build the project.
Q-5 What do pools cost?
A-5 They all vary because they are all different and because we do the entire project. The scope of the project dramatically affects the contract price.
Each Rin Robyn pool project is unique, custom tailored to each client’s wants and needs, and integrated accordingly into the surrounding environment.
The design process is a collaborative effort between our design team and each client. Toward the conclusion of the design process, costs are calculated within a menu format where the client may pick and choose materials and additional amenities, make changes to the project, and understand how cost is affected. Rin Robyn pool projects are not cookie-cutter, nor are the costs associated.
Additionally, in most of our projects, the cost of the pool is only a fraction of the cost of the project.
In order to get an understanding of what a swimming pool project for you, your family, and your home might cost, we would be happy to discuss costs with you in a telephone call.
Q-6 How long will this take?
A-6 From the initial decision to move forward, until the project is complete, can take a lot of time and will vary widely depending on the scope of the project. However, at a minimum, from the time of the initial decision to move forward, it will take two months or more to complete the design process, another month or two to obtain building permits and anywhere from two months to a year to complete the project. It is not uncommon for us to have projects that are two years from initial concept to completion.
Q-7 What is involved in routine maintenance?
A-7 Designing and building the finest pools in the world means creating a pool that is virtually maintenance free. This is what we do. We offer automatic pool cleaners as well as an in-floor cleaning system, many types of sanitizing solutions, and automatic covers and controllers, all of which also influence ease of use. We also offer weekly maintenance on our pools. If you plan to take care of the pool yourself, plan to spend between 10 and 20 minutes per week performing the maintenance.
Q-8 What safety concerns are there?
A-8 Although nothing is as important as common sense when it comes to pool safety, systems that help keep your family safe are built into every pool project at Rin Robyn Pools.
We also offer a state-of-the-art active sonar technology pool alarm system that is built right into the walls of the swimming pool. If anyone falls into the pool or even walks into the pool, the sonar detects the entry and immediately triggers a distinctive sounding alarm both poolside and in your home.
This system utilizes the same active sonar technology that the US Navy uses and since it’s inception in the swimming pool market, has documented saves of 18 lives.
We also offer a removable mesh pool fence designed specifically to provide a barrier around the swimming pool for toddlers, young children, pets and other wildlife.
Also, automatic pool covers can be designed into many pool shapes and sizes. These covers can be opened and closed with just the turn of a switch.
Q-9 What are your services – How much of the entire project do you do?
A-9 We can provide everything from A to Z. After designing the project, we can build the pool, do all of the hardscaping, build walls and patios, provide for drainage and site water management, build shade structures, pool houses, outdoor lighting, provide the electrical work and the plumbing, build or modify decks, and provide plant listings and manage the plant material installation.
Q-10 What chemicals are needed?
A-10 Every Rin Robyn swimming pool is built with sanitizers that offer an alternative to the messy chlorine tablets that are so prevalent in the pool industry. Mineral salt, ozone technology (both CD and UV), and non chlorine based chemicals offer every homeowner the choice to diminish, or eliminate altogether, the amount of chlorine used in their swimming pool. We are a BioGuard Insignia Dealer, having been selling the BioGuard systems since 1972 and offering several alternatives to chlorine as a sanitizing chemical. See www.bioguard.com for more information.
